Alphattack

Alphattack is a typing game developed by Miniclip. It involves using your keyboard to stop bomb-shaped aliens from destroying cities as they fall from the sky.

Controls[]

  • Keyboard: Attack
  • Space Bar: Panic Bomb

Gameplay[]

Alphattack has 18 levels, each one featuring a slew of enemies that fall from the sky, trying to land on the city below. To kill an enemy, you have to press the key that matches the letter (or number, in certain cases) on the enemy's body. Alternatively, if you find yourself overwhelmed by incoming enemies, you can press the space bar to drop a Panic Bomb and kill every enemy onscreen, though you only have a limited supply of Panic Bombs.

If you fail to kill an enemy in time, it'll hit the city and do damage; however, if an enemy hits the ground, it'll detonate and destroy the entire city, which costs you a life! Bonus stages are exempt from this rule, though; in these levels, the enemies will harmlessly fall into water, so you only need to worry about killing as many as possible.

Once all enemies have been destroyed either by being killed or by hitting the city, the level ends and you get bonus points for every block of city property that wasn't damaged by the enemies, plus a score modifier based on your accuracy (and an extra score bonus if you managed to kill every enemy in the level).

Tips[]

  • Falling enemies give more points the closer they are to the city when they're killed, so try to kill them as late as you can without letting them hit your city.
  • Don't hit your keys randomly; try to make sure every keypress that you make kills an enemy so you get a high accuracy score modifier at the end of the level.

Enemies[]

  • Grunt: Basic enemy that has no special abilities and destroys one block when it hits the city. Moves fairly fast and tends to come in big groups.
  • Rotator: Explosive-packed enemy that constantly revolves to make it harder to see the letter on its body. Destroys three blocks when it hits the city.
  • Chomper: High-tech enemy that uses its mechanical jaws to eat its way through the city blocks and to the ground.
  • Zeppelin: Big blimp-shaped alien that flies across the top of the screen and drops Sawblades. Has a 3-digit number on its body and can be killed by pressing each of the three digits on your keyboard (note: the score you get from killing a Zeppelin depends on the order in which you pressed the digits).
  • Sawblade: Circular saw-shaped enemy that rotates as it falls to make it harder to see the letter on its body. Damages one block when it hits the city.
  • Death Saucer: Hovers at the top of the screen and does nothing until the end of the level, where it will instantly destroy the city with its death ray if it's still alive. Can only be killed by scoring enough points to reach the score displayed on its screen.
  • Bonus Letter: Harmless enemy that moves fast but doesn't damage your city, and only ever shows up bearing a letter that's used to spell the words "Life" or "Bomb". If you kill enough Bonus Letters to spell out either of these words, you receive an extra life or Panic Bomb respectively.

Trivia[]

  • Alphattack contains a very cleverly disguised adult joke; in the game's help section, it refers to the Death Saucer as a "pesky son-of-A-B", and then states that the Death Saucer's parents were the first two letters of the alphabet.
