Brawl Royale is a flash game that serves as a precursor to the Epic Battle Fantasy series. This game tests your reflexes by pitting you against an assortment of opponents in a series of quick-draw battles to the death where you have to try to be the first to launch an attack.

Gameplay[]

In this game you play as Matt, a happy-go-lucky swordsman, and have to fight and defeat ten different opponents in a row to win the tournament. During each battle, you have to press the space bar as soon as possible to launch your attack first before your opponent can launch theirs. As you progress through the game, each opponent you face has a faster reaction time than the last, requiring you to press the space bar even more quickly the further along you get. If an opponent manages to get their attack in first, you are defeated and the game is lost.

List of Opponents[]

Brawl Royale's opponent roster consists of a combination of original characters and characters from other series. In order of appearance, they are as follows:

  • NoLegs: A mischievous knife-wielding cat with homicidal tendencies.
  • Tonberry: A humanoid lizard-like monster hailing from the Final Fantasy series.
  • Red Mage: A wizard from the first Final Fantasy game.
  • Yoko Littner: A gun-wielding heroine from the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann anime series.
  • Black Waltz: Another wizard from the Final Fantasy series, this one originating from Final Fantasy IX.
  • Lazarus: A soldier-type villain who previously appeared in some of the animations made by Matt Roszak, creator of the Epic Battle Fantasy series.
  • Unnamed Robot: A huge combat robot decked out with heavy-duty weaponry.
  • Natalie: A powerful mage who previously appeared in many of Matt Roszak's earlier animations.
  • Canti: A TV-headed robot warrior who uses his electric guitar as a weapon.
  • Zombie Goku: The undead incarnation of Goku, a warrior from the Dragon Ball series with godlike powers.

Trivia[]

  • Although it's not directly tied to Epic Battle Fantasy, Brawl Royale does have several connections to the series that demonstrate how it has influenced the series:
    • Several characters in this game would go on to show up in Epic Battle Fantasy in one form or another.
      • Both NoLegs and Natalie returned in Epic Battle Fantasy 1, and have been major characters in the series since then.
      • Zombie Goku also reappeared in Epic Battle Fantasy 1, once again appearing as the final boss. His appearances in these games are in reference to how the original non-zombified Goku appeared in several of Matt's Roszaks's animations as a villain before eventually being killed.
      • The Red Mage made a cameo appearance in Epic Battle Fantasy 2.
      • Lance, a major character debuting in Epic Battle Fantasy 2, was potentially inspired by Lazarus.
      • The unnamed robot's design wound up being the inspiration for the Praetorian, one of the bosses in Epic Battle Fantasy 4. Both this nameless robot and the Praetorian can also be recreated in Mecha Dress Up Game.
    • Some of Matt's swords, including his trademark Heaven's Gate, first appeared in this game.
    • Some of the outfits seen in this game reappeared in later Epic Battle Fantasy games as unlockable armors.
