Gameplay[]

Bullet Heaven 3 Prototype is a top-down shooter game much like the first two Bullet Heaven games, but the gameplay is significantly different. Instead of flying forward while waves of enemies come at you, you're placed on a still screen where enemies will spawn in and engage in various attack behaviors as they try to damage you. Thus, you can fire projectiles in multiple directions to hit the enemies; depending on which control scheme you choose, projectiles are fired either in the four directions of the WASD/arrow keys or in the direction opposite of where you move your mouse. With mouse-only controls, projectiles are fired automatically, but with the other control schemes you fire projectiles manually.

Each level contains several waves of enemies, and you have to kill all the enemies in a wave to move on to the next one. Once every few waves, a heart will appear for you to collect in case you lost any health. Once all waves have been cleared, you win the level and are given a rank based on how many times you got hit by enemy attacks. Otherwise, if you take too many hits and run out of health, you lose the level. In between levels, you can use the money collected from defeated enemies to buy upgrades in order to become stronger.

Upgrades[]

  • Shot Damage: Increases the amount of damage your projectiles do to enemies.
  • Rate of Fire: Increases the rate at which you shoot projectiles.
  • Max Health: Increases your max HP.
  • Movement Speed: Makes you move faster.
  • Health Drops: Makes health pick-ups spawn more often.
  • Power-Up Drops: Makes Sword and Shield power-ups drop from defeated enemies more often. (Swords temporarily triple your attack power, Shields give you a temporary force field that deflects all bullets. Both make you immune to enemy projectiles until they wear off.)
  • Item Magnet: Lets you draw in money and power-ups from further away.
  • Money Multiplier: Makes money pick-ups worth more when you collect them.

Trivia[]

  • Bullet Heaven 3 Prototype was developed for Newgrounds's Flash Forward game jam, a jam consisting of Ruffle-friendly flash games in celebration of the rise of Ruffle. The game's developer has plans to release a fully realized version of Bullet Heaven 3 one day.
  • Due to time constraints, Bullet Heaven 3 Prototype reuses backgrounds and music from older EBF games - primarily Bullet Heaven 2, Epic Battle Fantasy 4, and Epic Battle Fantasy 5.
  • Bullet Heaven 3 Prototype's enemy roster primarily consists of enemy types that have never appeared in the main EBF series, as opposed to the previous two Bullet Heaven games which mostly feature enemies that were previously seen in the main EBF games.
  • Level 5's name, Fungus Chungus, is a reference to the Big Chungus meme.
