Epic Battle Fantasy 2 is the second game in the Epic Battle Fantasy series. Much like the first game, it's a simplistic linear RPG where you fight through many waves of enemies in a consecutive order, but it does introduce a few slightly more sophisticated mechanics.

Plot[]
In the previous game, heroic duo Matt and Natalie saved the world from being destroyed by Zombie Goku, only to get caught in the nuclear explosion from his body that went off after they killed him. The earth itself hasn't been in much better shape since Zombie Goku's death; the undead menace's explosion had released seismic tremors and gamma waves that tore the planet apart. Now, years later, the earth's atmosphere is full of radioactive gasses, and creatures everywhere are being mutated into dangerous monsters from the extreme radiation. With all the chaos going on, the world's remaining survivors are struggling to figure out how to rebuild society. The disarray provides the perfect opportunity for an ambitious militaristic genius named Lance to step in and conquer the world. After raising an army of monsters and robots, Lance begins his conquest for world domination and is met with little resistance, at least for the time being...
Meanwhile, in the Kitten Kingdom, Matt and Natalie - previously presumed dead - have been recuperating under the care of the cats living there. After making a full recovery, the pair hears about Lance decides to leave the Kitten Kingdom to stop him, which for some reason causes them to be attacked by the Kitten Kingdom's soldiers. After forcing their way out of the kingdom, Matt and Natalie pass through a small forest full of bees and wind up in a weapon factory where they encounter one of Lance's most powerful robots, the Guardian. After taking it down, Matt and Natalie are visited by one of their former rivals from a long time ago, who offers to sell them items to help them on their journey. Meanwhile, Matt and Natalie's cat friend NoLegs is assaulted by the undead skeletons of cats from the Kitten Kingdom that he was forced to betray and kill in order to be able to help Matt and Natalie on their quest to defeat Lance.
Matt and Natalie leave the factory and arrive at a frozen beach inhabited by giant turtles and jellyfish. Eventually, they run into a Giga Golem made of frozen and molten rocks that has powerful magic. Despite the onslaught of fire and ice magic it hurls at them, the pair manages to destroy the Giga Golem and move on, landing them in a desert filled with more giant turtles along with some other monsters they encountered earlier. They also get attacked by the tail of a ferocious Sandworm along the way. Soon after, the heroes find the Sandworm itself and slay it. Weary from their travels, they decide to eat the Sandworm, only to discover that Sandworm meat is toxic and die. Luckily, though, an angel decides to come and resurrect them. Seeing that their morale is still low since treking through the desert wasn't much fun, the angel offers to sell Matt and Natalie some items to aid them; meanwhile, NoLegs is ambushed by another wave of skeleton cats.
Now in the final stretch of their journey, Matt and Natalie enter a haunted forest full of evil spirits and come face-to-face with a gigantic, two-headed Zombie Hydra. Although the battle is grueling, the heroes defeat the Zombie Hydra and finally reach Lance's fortress. After busting up some of his robots, the heroes confront Lance and defeat him by destroying his ultimate weapon, the Valkyrie tank. After his defeat, Lance realizes the error of his ways and becomes friends with Matt and Natalie.
Gameplay[]
Similar to the first Epic Battle Fantasy, Epic Battle Fantasy 2 is a marathon of enemy waves that have to be defeated one after another, but this time around there are some new features. Chief among these features is the save feature - at certain points in the game, you're able to save your progress so you don't have to beat the entire game in one sitting like with EBF1. You also get to give Matt and Natalie upgrades after completing each of the game's worlds. After reaching a checkpoint in the game, you get to play a minigame in which you play as NoLegs and have to kill skeleton cats in order to obtain as much gold as possible. Afterwards, you're taken to a shop where you can use the gold to buy items to help you during battle.
Aside from these new features, EBF2's gameplay is largely the same as in EBF1; your party and the enemy team take turns using abilities to attack opponents or defend themselves. Your team consists of Matt the swordsman and Natalie the mage; they each have their own unique abilities. Matt is the damage-dealing warrior of the pair, and has a variety of heavy-hitting physical and magic attacks as well as a few support skills that can debuff enemies or help him and Natalie. He's also able to switch between a number of different swords, each one having different elemental properties and stat bonuses. Natalie is the support unit, able to sustain herself and Matt with many protective skills, but she also has some very powerful magic attacks. She can also summon various creatures to help the duo, including a Scan Bot which collects data on new enemies and adds it to a Bestiary so you can learn more about the enemies you scanned.
EBF2 brings two new mechanics to the combat system; the first is elements - different attacks from both the heroes and the enemies now deal different types of elemental damage; as such, enemies in this game have elemental weaknesses that can be exploited if you use the right elements against them. The second mechanic introduced in EBF2 is Limit Breaks, which are extremely powerful attacks that Matt and Natalie get to use in place of their basic attack after taking enough damage.
Normal vs. Magic Attack/Defense[]
Like most traditional JRPGs, EBF2 distinguishes damage dealt between normal and magic. Normal attack damage mainly concerns physical attacks, while magic attack damage usually comes from spells and magic-powered attacks. On a similar note, normal defense only reduces damage against normal attacks while magic defense only reduces damage against magic attacks.
Difficulty Settings[]
In EBF2, you can choose between four difficulty levels when starting a new game.
- Easy: Enemies are 20% weaker than normal.
- Normal: Enemies have normal stats.
- Hard: Enemies do 20% more damage than normal, and some have new attacks.
- Epic: Enemies do 40% more damage than normal and also have other buffs.
Elements[]

- Holy: Light-themed attacks and "positive" magic. Aside from powerful attacks, this element is also associated with healing spells.
- Dark: Dark and cosmic attacks, also associated with the supernatural/undead. It is the most destructive element in the game.

Miscellaneous[]
Other enemies that don't fit in any particular group.

Bosses[]
Guardian[]
The Guardian is a superpowered military-grade robot, perhaps one of Lance's most powerful creations besides the Valkyrie, that you encounter in the game's eighth wave which is situated in the Weapon Factory. It has a pair of arm attachments - the Guardian's Sword and the Guardian's Shield - which act as separate entities and each give the Guardian an extra turn as long as they're intact. Between the arms and the main body, the Guardian can deal quite a lot of damage, so your first priority should be to get rid of the arms. The Guardian does have a healing ability that lets it regenerate its arms (or just restore their health if they haven't been completely destroyed), but you can prevent it from using this ability by Sealing or Stunning it.
When attacking, the Guardian attacks with its Sword first, then with its main body, and then with its Shield. The Sword and Shield simply use a fairly powerful non-elemental attack, but the main body can use non-elemental, Bomb, and Thunder attacks, with the latter being able to Stun your party members. The amount of damage the Guardian can do to your party with all these attacks can be discouraging at first, but it can be managed if you make frequent use of defense buffs and healing abilities like Healmore and the Slime Bunny summon. On the offensive side, stick to Bomb and Thunder attacks as those are the Guardian's weakness. Matt's Screamer is also useful here since it can debuff the Guardian's magic defense, making it more vulnerable to the duo's Bomb anf Thunder attacks which deal magic damage.
When dealing with the Guardian, try to destroy its Shield first; in addition to giving the Guardian an extra turn, it doubles the entire boss's defense, resulting in the Guardian and its arms taking half damage from your party's attacks. Once it's gone, you can whittle down the Guardian's health more easily.
Giga Golem[]
The Giga Golem is a huge golem capable of wielding potent ice and fire magic; it's encountered in the thirteenth wave, at the end of the Frozen Beach. It has a unique gimmick: it's able to switch between two different elemental forms - a fire form and an ice form - with different attacks and weaknesses. In both forms, the Giga Golem spends two turns using powerful physical attacks (including one especially powerful attack that hits both party members), and then uses its third turn to use a magic attack, summon some Bits, and change into its other form.
The Giga Golem's ice form uses Ice attacks which can Freeze your party members, and is weak to Fire, Earth, Bomb, and Dark attacks. Its fire form uses heavy-hitting Fire attacks and is weak to Ice, Water, Bomb, and Holy attacks. As you may have noticed, Bomb is a consistent weakness between both of the Giga Golem's forms; thus, using Bomb attacks like Air Strike or the Hand Bomb item is the best way to bring it down. As with the Guardian, it's also important to keep buffing your party's defense and health up throughout the battle as the Giga Golem is capable of dealing very heavy damage.
The Bits that the Giga Golem summons should also be dealt with appropriately, as they can cause problems if left unattended. Fire Bits should be destroyed immediately - otherwise, they'll suicide bomb your party on the next turn, dealing heavy Fire damage which can potentially leave your party members on low enough health to be killed by the Giga Golem. Ice Bits aren't as much of a threat since they deal low damage, but are capable of Freezing your party members. Simply Stunning them will keep them out of your hair.
Sandworm[]
The Sandworm is a giant sand-dwelling worm encountered in the sixteenth wave, at the end of the Desert Ruins. Much like the Guardian with its arms, the Sandworm has an extra appendage of its own - the Sandworm's Tail. The Sandworm's Tail only uses basic attacks but can sometimes Stun your party members, so it's probably best to neutralize it first before focusing on the Sandworm itself. The Sandworm's Tail isn't particularly powerful or hard to kill, and also shares the Sandworm's weaknesses - Water, Ice, and Poison - but it can always respawn a few turns later, so you may be better off just Stunning it using Stunners or Natalie's Thunderbolt.
The Sandworm itself is dangerous for its ability to Poison and Blind your party members, which can be crippling. These status effects can really build up after a while, so if they start to get too overwhelming, use Antidotes or the Purify skill to remove them. Also, as with the previous two bosses, keep using defense buffs and healing skills to keep your party members healthy. When going on the offense, bombard the Sandworm with its weaknesses. Poison attacks are especially effective, as the Poison status effect they inflict can be stacked without a limit, so spamming Poison attacks like Toxic will eventually lead to the Sandworm losing a huge chunk of health after each turn.
Zombie Hydra[]
The Zombie Hydra is a undead two-headed dragon encountered in the nineteenth wave, at the end of the Haunted Woods. Each head acts as an individual unit with its own health bar. However, both heads have the ability to revive the other head if one of them has been killed, completely restoring all of the dead head's health, so you have to kill them both within one or two turns to prevent the beast's heads from being revived. The best way to do this is to try to keep alternating between the two heads with single-target attacks to even out the damage done to them, although if you're in a pinch you can prevent the Zombie Hydra from using its reviving ability by Sealing it.
Aside from its reviving ability, the Zombie Hydra is a huge threat because of its movepool consisting of very powerful physical, Poison, and Dark attacks. Most of these attacks just take out huge chunks of your party members' HP, but one of them is a Dark attack that can instantly kill one of your party members but has low accuracy. Thus, your highest priority for this battle should be keeping your party members protected by Autolife, alongside the obligatory defense buffs and healing skills - though the latter two aren't necessary if you managed to Seal both heads, which prevents them from using anything except their most basic physical attacks.
Valkyrie[]
The Valkyrie is an enormous battle tank built by Lance to help him take over the world. It's his most iconic weapon, and also his second most powerful - its strength is surpassed only by the dreaded Ion Cannon. You fight it in two phases, which both involve the Valkyrie attacking using a combination of its own built-in weapons and various attachments it's capable of outfitting itself with. Luckily, the Valkyrie maintains the same weaknesses - Thunder, Earth, and Bomb - throughout both of its phases, making it fairly easy to deal hefty amounts of damage to it using the right skills. However, the Valkyrie is capable of dealing massive amounts of damage via its myriad of attacks - now more than ever, the most important thing to do during this battle is to constantly use support skills to heal your party members and buff their defense!
Phase 1[]
In the first phase, you fight the Valkyrie on its own, and your objective is to destroy its upper turret, called the Tank Top. In this phase, the Valkyrie has a fairly straightforward combat style; it can attack by using the Tank Top to deliver powerful Bomb and Fire attacks, pelting your party members with shots from its machine guns, or simply running them over. This phase of the fight can be reasonably dealt with as long as you keep your party's defense buffed, and heal when necessary.
Phase 2[]
In the second phase, the Valkyrie begins summoning various attachments for backup to replace the Tank Top that was just destroyed. It can have up to two of these attachments at a time - they include Omega Lazors, Coolers, Satellite Dishes, Nukes, and even Lance himself, each posing their own threats. They're all very powerful enemies and have different abilities that range from annoying to extremely dangerous.
The Valkyrie always begins this phase with Lance and an Omega Lazor joining the fray. The Valkyrie can also still use its machine gun and ramming attacks in this phase.
Among all of the Valkyrie's helpers, Lance is the easiest one to deal with, despite his high attack power. Being the only non-mechanical enemy present in this battle, he's very susceptible to status effects and is weak to Poison and Fire attacks. He can be neutralized by Stunning him repeatedly with Stunners or Thunder attacks, or quickly be removed from the equation by Poisoning him. Take full advantage of this attribute - getting rid of Lance eliminates the risk of him using his Ion Cannon on your party members, which is capable of almost completely depleting their health in a single blow.
Satellite Dishes aren't much more trouble to contend with; they're able to use a sonic attack that Seals your party members, but they can also be Sealed themselves, which restricts them to using a basic Thunder attack that deals moderate damage - effectively making them almost a nonthreat as long as you keep your party's defense up. Coolers are a bit more of a nuisance, not necessarily because of their damage output so much as their ability to inflict status effects. They can Freeze or Poison your party members, so you're probably better off taking them down. Omega Lazors are real powerhouses and should definitely be disposed of as soon as possible - they focus solely on dealing damage, as they're able to fire lasers to deal very heavy non-elemental damage. They can even charge themselves up for a stronger blast!
Once the Valkyrie's health gets low, it'll start spawning in its most dangerous attachment - the Nuke! Nukes don't do anything at first - they spend a few turns counting down. But when their countdown hits zero, they detonate and deal enough non-elemental damage to almost defintiely kill your party members!! Luckily for you, Nukes have relatively low health compared to the rest of the enemies summoned by the Valkyrie, so if a Nuke ever pops up, focus all your firepower on it!
Errors[]
- Two of Matt's swords, Swift Brand and Razorback, are said to be Wind-elemental in their in-game descriptions, but they actually deal Holy damage.
Trivia[]
- The music that plays in the Haunted Woods is a zen remix of Tsuna Awakens, a music track from an anime called Katekyo Hitman Reborn.
- This is the only Epic Battle Fantasy game where every boss has its own dedicated boss theme.
- The two Turtle enemies in this game were originally supposed to just be one enemy, but the developer couldn't decide whether to make it an ice monster or a fire monster, so he picked both and made two different Turtle types.
