Heavy Weapons is a Flash shooting game developed by Kongregate. It involves you piloting a spaceship and using its weapons to gun down various types of aliens across 60 levels.

Although Flash was discontinued on January 12 2021, Heavy Weapons is still playable through BlueMaxima’s Flashpoint and The Supernova Player.

Gameplay[]

In each of the 60 levels, your task is to kill a certain number of enemies as they continuously spawn in from various points on the screen. Defeated enemies also drop pieces of space junk which you can collect to earn money for buying stronger weapons. Once you kill enough enemies to reach the current level's quota, you have five seconds to pick up any space junk lying around before the level ends and you unlock the next one (do note that this game doesn't allow you to replay levels you've already beaten). If you take too much damage and run out of health, you lose the level and have to try again.

Weapons[]

  • Shot: Shoots one laser bolt at a time and has a quick rate of fire. This weapon is available from the start of the game.
  • Diagonals: Shoots four laser bolts at a time, one from each of your ship's diagonals. Costs $2,500.
  • Boomeranger: Shoots laser boomerangs that fly out a short distance and then return to your ship. Costs $2,500.
  • Arc Spread: Shoots a volley of three laser arcs that cover a wide range. Costs $4,000.
  • Spiraller: Generates energy orbs that spiral outward from your ship. Costs $5,500.
  • Ricochet: Shoots reflective lasers that bounce off of enemies after hitting them. Costs $5,500.
  • Spliner: Shoots a solid energy beam wherever you click. Costs $10,000.
  • 4 Homers: Launches four homing missiles from each side of your ship. Costs $15,000.
  • Reverse Cannon: Sends in six big bullets from the edges of the screen to close in on the spot where you clicked. Costs $20,000.
  • Bomb: Releases a time bomb that explodes after a few seconds, damaging all enemies within the range of its big blast. Costs $30,000.
  • Slow Time: Temporarily freezes time. Costs $40,000.
  • Energy Homers: An improved version of the 4 Homers that launches missiles which move slower but deal more damage to enemies. Costs $50,000.
  • Rail Gun: Shoots a tight volley of three fast-moving bullets that deal massive damage. Costs $60,000.
  • Laser Lock: Locks onto an enemy and fires a laser that instantly kills the targeted enemy when used. Costs $70,000.
  • Squarestep: Releases an energy surge that travels along the terrain, following a path depending on the shape of the tiles that make up the ground. Costs $80,000.
  • Lightning: Shoots out lightning bolts in random directions that strike enemies within range. Costs $90,000.
  • Big Field Gun: Shoots a slow-moving but gigantic energy orb that does massive damage. Costs $100,000.
  • Vortex: Generates a vortex that sucks enemies in and holds them in place for a while. Costs $120,000.
  • Shortshield: Surrounds your ship with an energy shield that protects you from enemy projectiles and damages enemies on contact. Costs $150,000.
  • Big Laser: Shoots a giant solid laser beam that does massive damage. Costs $200,000.
  • The Duck of Death: Shoots artificially intelligent duck drones that seek out enemies and deal massive damage. Costs $500,000.

Enemies[]

  • Scout Ship: A small triangular spaceship that chases after you.
  • Heavy Scout Ship: A larger version of the Scout Ship that moves slower but has more health.
  • Space Bug: A grub-like alien that just moves forward in a straight line.
  • TIE Fighter: A spaceship based off the TIE Fighter ships from Star Wars, which flies in a sine wave pattern in random directions.
  • Yellow Invader: An 8-bit creature based off one of the aliens from Space Invaders, which moves around in circles and tries to home in on you.
  • Mega Turret: A huge turret that shoots slow-moving bullets at you and has really high health.
  • Aircraft Port: An indestructible automatic door that constantly unleashes small clusters of various airborne enemy types (plus the occasional oddity such as Space Fish) into the level.
  • Rocket Ship: Behaves similarly to a Scout Ship but moves much faster.
  • Cubehead: A small robot that behaves identically to a Space Bug but has less health.
  • Flying Saucer: A UFO-like spaceship that chases after you but can't make sharp turns.
  • Mega Turret 2.0: An improved version of the Mega Turret that shoots bullets at a faster rate.
  • Tank: A slow-moving war vehicle that chases after you and shoots bullets.
  • Chopper: A small helicopter that chases after you and occasionally shoots a bullet, but tries to keep its distance if you get close to it.
  • Space Fish: A fish-like creature that chases after you in short bursts of movement.
  • Metal Cube: A metallic cube that slowly chases after you and has high health.
  • Neon Scout Ship: A glowy wireframe variant of the Scout Ship that moves somewhat faster but doesn't home in on you as accurately.
  • Giga Scout Ship: An enormous Scout Ship that very slowly chases after you. Bizarrely enough, despite its huge size it has more health than a normal Scout Ship but less health than a Heavy Scout Ship.
  • Hunter Bot: A golden robot that chases after you in short bursts of movement, but tends to wander around aimlessly when you're not in its line of sight.
  • Space Rock: A big boulder that bounces across the screen in a straight line.
  • Orange Invader: An 8-bit creature based off another one of the aliens from Space Invaders, which behaves similarly to a Yellow Invader but moves more erratically.
  • Red Invader: An 8-bit creature based off another one of the aliens from Space Invaders, which behaves similarly to a Yellow Invader but moves even more erratically.
  • Space Snake: A large snake-like alien that slithers around randomly.
  • Space Pebble: A much smaller version of a Space Rock that has less health but moves faster.
  • Space Donut: A donut-shaped spacecraft that spawns in from a portal and spirals outward, trying to ram into you.
  • Elite Space Fish: An improved version of the Space Fish that chases after you in a zigzag pattern.
  • Neon Cube: A glowy wireframe variant of the Metal Cube that has less health and tries to dodge your shots when you shoot at it.
  • Neon Sphere: A glowy wireframe ball that chases after you but only homes in on you loosely, making it prone to flying around randomly for a bit before actually coming after you.
  • Space Germ: A big blobby creature that chases after you in long strides.

Bosses[]

  • The Donut of Death: Encountered in Level 27, this is a boss-level variant of a Space Donut. It cycles between three different attacks. First, it teleports around the room and shoots huge sprays of bullets at you. Then it chases after you while shooting tiny bullets in random directions. Next, it summons a few Space Donuts, and then restarts the cycle.

Trivia'[]

  • Level 32's name, "The Henchmen", is in reference to the fact that all the enemies featured in that level are standard enemy versions of the game's three bosses.
