Papa's Pastaria is a game in the Papa Louie series. It's the ninth cooking simulator game (aka "Gameria") in the seires, and is the sequel to Papa's Cupcakeria. It involves making pasta and bread for the various customers that visit the establishment.
Plot[]
Little Edoardo proposes to Olga for her hand in marriage, and she accepts. So, invitations to their wedding are sent out, and Doan/Utah/Custom Worker (depending on who you chose to play as) receives one in the mail. Seeing that the wedding is in the waterfront town of Portallini, he/she mails out his/her RSVP and then goes to reserve a hotel room via Travel Trout, the travelling agency, but finds that no hotels near Portallini have rooms available. Becoming desperate, Doan/Utah/Custom Worker broadens his/her search and finds a room available at Papa's Pastaria. Left with no other option, he/she places his/her reservation for the room, and immediately the doorbell rings.
Doan/Utah/Custom Worker opens the door to find a Travel Trout package at the doorstep. Inside the box, Doan/Utah/Custom Worker finds a Pastaria uniform, an employee manual, and an airline ticket to Portallini leaving immediately. Doan/Utah/Custom Worker realizes that he/she has effectively been duped into enlisting himself/herself into working for Papa's Pastaria. Stuck between a rock and a hard place with no other rooming options available, Doan/Utah/Custom Worker is forced to accept the position and report to the Pastaria to begin working there.
Gameplay[]
In this game you play as one of the Pastaria's employees as they spend their days working at the establishment. When creating a new save file, you can choose to play as either Doan, Utah, or Custom Worker - Custom Worker is a fully customizable character that you can style to your liking by choosing the character's body type, skin and hair color, and clothing. Each level constitutes one day of business at the Pastaria. During a day, a number of customers come in and place orders for pasta. Most customers approach the front desk to place an order, but a few of them will sit in the dining room and order from there. The dining room feature is unlocked a few ranks in, and when it's unlocked you have the ability to select a second character to be your server who takes orders from the dining room.
Your objective is to create the food to their specifications; this is done through four different stations: one for taking orders, two for making the pasta, and one for baking the bread. When a meal is completed and sent to a customer, the customer will judge the food based on how long they had to wait for it and how accurately the food matches their order, and give a corresponding score. If a customer gives a high score, they will also give you a tip, along with up to three minigame tickets.
The points you get from customer scores give you XP that goes towards achieving a higher rank, allowing you to advance through the game and unlock more of its content, granting you access to more ingredients and attracting new customers to the establishment. Additionally, advancing through the game's ranks also takes you through seasons and holidays; as you climb through the game's ranks, the game will advance through the months of the year, each one represented by a different holiday. Each holiday has its own set of special holiday toppings that are only available during that respective holiday. Certain customers favor a specific holiday and are more likely to order holiday-exclusive ingredients while their favorite holiday is active.
Meanwhile, the tips can be used to buy decorations for your lobby and upgrades to make it easier to make the food. However, said decorations have a value called freshness; a decoration's freshness slowly goes down the longer it's left in the lobby, making it slowly become less effective over time - this makes it important to switch up your decorations every once in a while so you can keep getting maximum bonuses from them. Meanwhile, the minigame tickets are used to access and play minigames of varying nature after each day; these minigames give various rewards including extra tips and new furniture if you win them.
The ultimate goal of the game is to reach a high enough rank to unlock everything. Aside from customers, there are two other ways to earn tips: weekly paydays and badges. Paydays give you a large amount of tips once every seven days, and badges are in-game achievements that give you a small tip once completed.
In addition to earning tips and points, doing well on a customer's order also gives the customer a star. When a customer gets five stars, they get a Customer Medal that causes them to give you higher tips when you do well. The medal gets upgraded every five stars; the first medal customers obtain is the Bronze Medal, then the Silver Medal, and finally the Gold Medal.
Aside from normal customers, you also have to contend with Closers; the Closers are a group of seven customers that are more picky about their food than normal customers, and will judge you more harshly when critiquing the food you give them. One Closer always appears as the last customer of each day (except for Day 1), and unlike normal customers, they don't appear randomly; each Closer is tied to one day of the week. On Sundays, the most judgemental Closer of all, Jojo the Food Critic, will visit the Pastaria. His scoring is even harsher than the other six Closers', and unlike any other customer in the game, he orders something completely different every time he visits. If you serve him well, Jojo will reward you with a Blue Ribbon award; the Blue Ribbon stays on your counter for the next three days, causing customers to give you higher tips during that time. Also worth noting is that in this game, each of the Closers favors all of the holidays.

Minigames[]
- Grab-a-Roni Gondola: You're being taken on a ride down one of Portallini's water canals on Deano's gondola, and you have to navigate the gondola to collect enough of the elbow macaroni noodles scattered all over the canal to reach a quota. If you have enough noodles to satisfy the quota by the time you reach the end of the canal, you win.
- Home Run Derby: A pitcher throws a baseball your way, and your goal is to click at the right time to swing your bat and hit the ball to win the game. The pitcher uses harder pitching types and throws the ball at a higher speed the more times you win this game.
- Slider Escape: You play as a Burger Silder whose goal is to make its way to the end of a maze. Using the arrow keys or mouse to move the Slider, you must guide it to a green springboard which will catapult the Slider out of the maze. Once the Slider starts moving, it doesn't stop until it hits an obstruction, so be careful not to move the Slider in a direction where there are no obstacles or else the Slider will slide off the screen and you'll lose the game.
- Hallway Hunt: You're shown four customers, each one standing in front of a door. You're then assigned a customer, and the screen goes completely black with only the customers' eyes being illuminated. The eyes will move around for a short while, leaving it up to you to keep track of which pair of eyes is your customer's. After this, the screen lights back up with all four customers hiding behind a door, and you have to pick one of the doors. If you pick the door your assigned customer was hiding behind, you win. The blackout gets more challenging the more times you win this game; extra pairs of eyes will start entering the screen to confuse you.
- Burgerzilla: Burger ingredients are raining from the sky, and your task is to use your bottom burger bun to collect as many ingredients as you can. Eventually, the top bun will fall onto your burger; if you collect enough ingredients to stack the burger to the required height by the time it lands, you win the game. However, if you miss too many ingredients, you lose. Each time you win this game, the ingredients' falling speed gets a little faster.
- Maple Shot: Breakfast-themed food monsters run and fly across the screen, and you have to shoot as many of them as you can using a bottle of Maple Syrup before time runs out. If you shoot enough of the enemies by the time the game ends, you win.
- Mitch's Mess: Your task is to search Mitch's extremely messy room for a few items displayed at the bottom of the screen before the time runs out. If time runs out or you click on the wrong item three times, you lose. The number of items increases the more times you win this game.
