Super House of Dead Ninjas is an infinite runner platformer developed by Megadev and published by Adult Swim. It's the sequel to House of Dead Ninjas, and it revolves around a ninja trying to explore a mystical tower filled with monsters in hopes of discovering the fate of the first ninja who ventured into the tower. The game was once available to play on the Adult Swim website, but was taken down due to the impending death of Adobe Flash Player. It has since be re-released on Steam.
Controls[]
All of the controls in this game can be redefined in the options menu.
- Left/Right: Move left/right
- Up: Jump (hold to jump higher, tap twice to double-jump)
- Down: Crouch (use Left/Right keys while Crouching to Crouch Run)
- Z: Melee Attack
- X: Throw Projectile
- C: Throw Bomb
- Space Bar: Magic Attack
Plot[]
Legends tell of a mystical tower called the Ziggurat of Infinum, which countless ninjas have entered in an attempt to reach the bottom and claim its riches; allegedly, one ninja known as the One-Armed Ninja managed to accomplish this, although some are skeptical towards this story. Among the skeptics is Nintai Ryoko, a female ninja who has no interest in the Ziggurat's treasure. However, when monsters emerge from the Ziggurat and start terrorizing nearby villages and kidnapping people, Nintai decides to venture into the Ziggurat, not for fame or fortune but to put a stop to the monster invasions by defeating Abarghus, the demon god who controls all the monsters and lives at the bottom of the Ziggurat.
True Ending[]
Upon defeating Abarghus in Hard Mode, you are treated to the games's true ending, in which Abarghus congratulates Nintai for defeating him and freeing the One-Armed Ninja from his control. He then gives Nintai the option to take the One-Armed Ninja's dead body and either bring him back to her village and bury him, or let Abarghus send him to Hell where his soul will be tortured for eternity. If the former option is chosen, Nintai is shown burying the One-Armed Ninja, and it's revealed that she is his daughter. If the latter option is chosen, Abarghus betrays Nintai and sends her to Hell as well, leading to her being transported to a secret area known as Abarghus's Domain.
Gameplay[]
Similarly to its predecessor, Super House of Dead Ninjas has you run and fight your way down the Ziggurat of Infinum on your quest to reach the bottom. However, while House of Dead Ninjas is strictly an endless runner, Super House of Dead Ninjas has a set goal; you start at the 350th floor and have to try and get as close as you can to the bottom floor. At certain floors, you'll encounter a boss that you have to fight in order to continue your descent; once you defeat a boss, you gain the option to start your game from the floor where you encountered the boss instead of at the 350th floor. The ultimate goal of the game is to reach Floor 0 and defeat the final boss, although there is also an endless mode that can be unlocked by beating the final boss on Hard difficulty and choosing the "bad" ending.
As you play, a timer counts down from 30 seconds; let the timer reach zero and a giant red Grim Reaper will appear and endlessly pursue you until either he kills you or you collect an Extra Time pickup to reset the timer. If you get killed by the Grim Reaper or any other enemy or hazard, you lose a life, and the game ends if you lose all your lives. On Normal difficulty, you get two free continues that you have the option to use after losing all your lives, but on Hard difficulty this feature is absent.
During gameplay, Nintai has several abilities that can be used to defeat or evade enemies and hazards. In terms of basic movement, she's able to double jump, wall jump, and crouch run. Additionally, if Nintai stays crouched for long enough, she can charge up a super jump, allowing her to jump much higher than normal. Offensively, she has four different methods of attack at her disposal. Melee weapons are Nintai's standard attacking ability, but they're very versatile. Aside from basic melee attacks, Nintai's melee weapons can also be used to do downward thrusts or mid-air spin attacks - both of which instantly kill enemies regardless of how many hits it normally takes to kill them. Nintai can also use projectile weapons to hit enemies from afar, bombs to blow up obstacles and certain types of otherwise indestructible enemies, and magic to wipe out many enemies at once; these three attack methods have limited ammo and must be replenished by collecting their respective pickups. Initially, Nintai has only one type of each attack (Katana for melee, Shurikens for projectiles, basic Bombs, and Lightning Magic for magic), but more can be unlocked by completing various achievements in the game.
Aside from all that, there are also a myriad of power-ups in the game that have all sorts of different effects on either Nintai or her enemies to make it easier for her to navigate the Ziggurat, but as with Nintai's weapons, most of them have to be unlocked by completing achievements. Power-ups usually drop from defeated enemies and broken crates, but every once in a while you may find a treasure room inhabited by Smither, a friendly but slightly perverted skeleton. Treasure rooms have three treasure chests, each one containing a high-tier power-up; upon entering a treasure room, your timer will be fully refilled and Smither will let you open one of the chests (although certain long-ranged weapons make it possible to open two chests instead); after opening the chest of your choice, the other two disappear and you are free to leave the room and continue down the Ziggurat.
Also, new to this game is the Rage mechanic. Killing enemies helps Nintai build up Rage; when the Rage Gauge is filled up completely, she enters Rage Mode, wherein she is invincible, can kill any enemy in one hit, and enemies that normally pursue Nintai won't do so; these effects last until Nintai runs out of Rage. While in Rage Mode, Nintai's Rage drains quickly but can be replenished by killing more enemies while Rage Mode is still active.

Zones[]
- The Roof (Floors 350-250): The Ziggurat's upper levels, inhabited by low-level enemies and featuring simple floor arrangements. The floors in this zone have no particular theme; they simply look like generic dungeon rooms.
- Abyss of Nature (Floors 250-150): The Ziggurat's middle section, where some of the game's stronger enemies show up and floor arrangements become more complex. The floors in this zone have nature-themed aesthetics.
- The Royal Sanctum (Floors 150-0): The Ziggurat's lower region, where you encounter the most powerful enemies in the game and floor arrangements are very elaborate. The floors in this zone alternate between treasure-themed and space-themed aesthetics.
- Abarghus's Domain (Floors ???): An endless mode that takes place below Floor 0 of the Ziggurat. Here you deal with enemies of all types, along with ridiculously complicated floor arrangements. The floors in this zone have hellish aesthetics. This zone can only be accessed by defeating Abarghus on Hard difficulty and then choosing the "bad" ending.
- Transdimensional Leakage: A bizarro version of the Ziggurat that exists in another dimension. Much like with Abarghus's Domain, this zone features just about every type of enemy and ludicrously elaborate floor arrangements, plus two new bosses. The floors in this zone have all sorts of weird aesthetics. This zone can only be accessed in Hard mode, and only if you've earned a ticket by collecting all the WHEREAMI? Plates in one game.

Bosses[]
Minions[]
The Minions are Abarghus's strongest monster warriors, encountered on specific floors. Each difficulty features different Minions.
Spite the Agile Mantis[]
Spite is the Minion you encounter on Floor 250 if playing on Normal difficulty. He's quite easy to defeat, as he spends the entire battle just jumping around the room. Once his health gets low, he'll start dropping bombs as he jumps, but they can easily be avoided.
Torment the Unstoppable Turtle[]
Torment is the Minion you encounter on Floor 150 if playing on Normal difficulty. He has a very simple attack pattern - he just constantly chases after you the entire battle - but defeating him is a little tricky since his body is heavily armored. His only weak spot is the red spot located on the lower half of his shell; to land a hit on Torment, you have to jump over him and then hit that red spot with your hand weapon or a projectile (or if that's too difficult, you can hit him with bombs or magic).
Rage the Ferocious Lion[]
Rage is the Minion you encounter on Floor 250 if playing on Hard difficulty. Fighting him can be challenging at first, but his battle becomes really easy once you get used to his attack patterns. During battle, Rage runs to one end of the room, climbs up the wall, leaps down to a random spot in an attempt to pounce on you, and then repeats the cycle. When pouncing, Rage never lands in either of the room's corners, so the best way to take him down is to stay in a corner as he climbs up a wall, and then prepare to jump over him and do a spin attack after he pounces and starts running (spin attacks do triple damage to bosses).
Doom the Colossal Ox[]
Doom is the Minion you encounter on Floor 150 if playing on Hard difficulty. Depending how fast your reflexes are, his battle can range from somewhat annoying to infuriatingly difficult. Doom attacks by jumping into the air and then falling back down to land in a different spot as he tries to squash you. This on its own wouldn't be so much of an issue, except Doom also spawns a couple of Red Dragon Statues whenever he hits the ground. The Red Dragon Statues always appear in random spots, which may sometimes result in you being forced to move away from Doom to avoid being killed by their flames.
Horror the Skulking Reptile[]
Horror is the Minion you encounter on Floor 100 of the Transdimensional Leakage. His entire battle consists of one simple pattern that can easily be beaten if your timing and reflexes are good. He starts by turning himself invisible, then he reappears in a new spot in the room and shoots a projectile at you, and then he turns invisible again to restart the cycle. Every third time he "teleports", he'll appear close to the ground, giving you a window to hit him with a hand weapon or projectile.
Note: Although it appears that Horror is teleporting, he is actually just turning invisible, moving to a new spot, and then becoming visible again.
Disgust the Gluttonous Shark[]
Disgust is the Minion you encounter on Floor 350 of the Transdimensional Leakage. Compared to most other Minions, his battle is more slow-paced but kind of tricky. He spends most of the battle covering his mouth with his huge claws, which renders him invincible. His attack pattern begins with him walking from one side of the room to the other. Afterwards, Disgust uncovers his mouth, leaving him open to your attacks, and spits three acid balls, one after another. These acid balls bounce across the ground three times, getting smaller with each bounce. After that, he restarts the cycle.
EX Minions[]
The EX Minions are more powerful versions of the four Minions (Spite, Torment, Rage, and Doom) encountered in the regular Ziggurat. You encounter them on Floor 200 of the Transdimensional Leakage; whichever one of the four you meet when you reach this floor is completely random.
Spite EX[]
Spite EX's battle is nearly identical to that of his normal counterpart, but instead of dropping normal bombs, he drops Molotovs that immediately explode upon hitting the ground and generate bigger explosions.
Torment EX[]
The only thing that differentiates Torment EX from his normal counterpart is that he runs faster, making it harder to land a hit on him.
Rage EX[]
Much like Torment EX, Rage EX behaves exactly like his normal counterpart but moves faster, forcing you to react more quickly to his attacks.
Doom EX[]
Not only does Doom EX move more quickly than regular Doom, but his attacks spawn Blue Dragon Statues, which makes the battle much more hectic because they shoot large, fast-moving projectiles as opposed to the Red Dragon Statues' short-ranged flame attack.
Final Battle[]
This is the final boss fight which takes place on Floor 0. Here you fight the One-Armed Ninja and Abarghus one after the other in that order.
The One-Armed Ninja[]
As it turns out, the One-Armed Ninja is alive and well, and he doesn't appear to take too kindly to another ninja trying to steal his thunder by reaching the bottom of the Ziggurat! He spends most of the battle running back and forth, occasionally jumping up and throwing a giant bomb or two at you - these bombs don't hurt you on contact, only their huge explosions do. There's a twist, though: while he's running, the One-Armed Ninja is completely invincible! The only time he can be damaged is when he stops to charge up an attack; when he does this, he stands in place and flashes yellow for a few seconds before launching his attack, giving you a small window to attack him (preferably with a spin attack). Upon launching said attack, the One-Armed Ninja can either throw two giant bombs at you, hurl three giant shurikens that fly forward and spread out, or perform a mid-ranged melee attack with his sword. As long as you have quick reflexes, you can defeat the One-Armed Ninja fairly easily, but be prepared - after taking him down, you'll be challenged by a much more horrifying fiend...
Abarghus[]
PLOT TWIST -- the One-Armed Ninja has been possessed by Abarghus himself the whole time! Now that you've defeated his star warrior, Abarghus is beyond frustrated and ready to take you down with the full force of his demonic might! His battle follows a pattern that's not too complicated but quite grueling. First, Abarghus opens his chest to spawn a random enemy (usually either a Ninja, Wandering Ninja, Monkey, Frog, Skeleton, or Shield Ninja) and release several bombs that bounce all around the room. He only releases four bombs the first time around, but the number of bombs released increases for every time the cycle repeats itself, so beware! Afterwards, Abarghus lifts his arm up and then slams his hand down, trying to crush you (annoyingly, the accuracy of this attack is wildly inconsistent; sometimes, Abarghus will miss you by a mile, but other times he'll land a direct hit on you no matter how much you move.). After slamming his hand down, Abarghus's hand leaves behind a clump of purple ooze that you can stand on. Abarghus will then puke lava, which you can avoid by standing on the clump left behind by his hand. At this point, a strand of demonic slime that has the One-Armed Ninja entangled in it will drop down, and must be attacked as many times as possible before it raises itself up and disappears - this is the only way to damage Abarghus!
Errors[]
- The in-game description for the Axe of the Hefty Hefters states that it does double damage, but that's a lie.
- For some reason, the Green Fish and Red Fish enemies make mechanical clanking noises when killed, even though they're not robotic.
Trivia[]
- At the start of the final battle, the One-Armed Ninja says Nintai's name, but hilariously, the distortions added to the voice clip makes it sound like he's saying "Hentai".
- Horror's gimmick of "teleporting" around the room and firing projectiles at you whenever he becomes visible is similar to the attack patterns of the Wily Capsules from the Mega Man series.
