Super Sloth Bomber is an action game developed by Megadev and released on November 6th, 2009. It centers around a sloth in a hot air balloon who's been tasked with using bombs to blow up some weird creatures that have invaded his homeland.

Although Flash was discontinued on January 12 2021, Super Sloth Bomber is still playable through BlueMaxima’s Flashpoint.

Controls[]

  • Arrow Keys or WASD Keys: Move the balloon
  • Space: Drop bomb
  • P/Enter: Pause

Plot[]

The sloths on the island of Bombolia are peacefully going about their day when a giant ship called the S.S. Bladeshark suddenly crashes into the island and releases a swarm of bizarre creatures which quickly run amok all over Bombolia. This distresses the king of Bombolia, so he orders one of his loyal subjects to go out and cast out the creatures before they invade the entire island.

In the end, after the sloth bomber apprehends the S.S. Bladeshark's captain, Captain Slithe, and brings him to the king's castle, Captain Slithe explains that the whole mess was just one big misunderstanding. As it turns out, Slithe crashed the S.S. Bladeshark into Bombolia by accident, causing all of the animals onboard to escape onto the island. Slithe then sent his crewmates out to round up the animals, only for them to be attacked by the sloth bomber. Feeling bad about the mix-up, the king invites Slithe and his crew to a picnic, to which Slithe happily obliges.

Gameplay[]

Super Sloth Bomber has five levels, each with eight waves, that are unlocked one by one. In each level, you play as a sloth piloting a hot air balloon armed with a limited supply of bombs. The goal is to use the bombs to blow up all the enemies in each wave before the time runs out and without using up all your bombs. Successfully eliminating all enemies lets you advance to the next wave; otherwise, if you fail to destroy them all before you run out of time or bombs, then you'll have to replay the level starting on the wave where you lost. The last wave of every level contains a boss fight.

Throughout the game's levels, you earn money by killing enemies, destroying objects, and finding hidden money bags. You can use this money to buy new bombs and upgrades from the grocery shop to destroy enemies more easily.

Levels[]

  • Plainy Plains: A grassland area containing only the weakest enemies.
  • Shellsea Shore: An ocean area with some enemies that are slightly trickier to defeat.
  • Reallytall Tops: A mountain area that introduces some stronger enemies with annoying abilities.
  • Bubblebomb Volcano: A volcanic area where the most elusive and powerful enemies first appear.
  • S.S. Bladeshark: The interior of the S.S. Bladeshark's wreckage, containing a mix of all the game's enemies.

Enemies[]

  • Ham Tortoise: A cooked ham with tortoise legs. Stands in one spot, making it extremely easy to blow up. First seen in Plainy Plains.
  • Doris Manylegs: A cute pink creature with lots of legs, which walks slowly back and forth in a horizontal line. First seen in Plainy Plains.
  • Gleemole: An underground creature that sometimes pops up from its hiding hole. Can only be bombed when it's not hiding underground. Sometimes appears in groups. First seen in Plainy Plains.
  • Pineapple Dude (Moe): A blobby purple creature with a pineapple on his head. Walks slowly back and forth in a horizontal line, and inflates and explodes when bombed, potentially taking other enemies out with him. First seen in Plainy Plains.
  • Fishky Snish: A big yellow fish that floats back and forth in a horizontal line at moderate speed. First seen in Shellsea Shore.
  • Porkchop: A piece of meat on an inner tube, which quickly floats back and forth in a vertical line. First seen in Shellsea Shore.
  • Whatpear: A waterskiing pear that quickly zips back and forth in a horizontal line. Only appears in Shellsea Shore.
  • U-9 Footmarine: A living foot that hides underwater and moves back and forth in a horizontal line, occasionally stopping to emerge from underwater. Can only be bombed when it's not hiding underwater. Only appears in Shellsea Shore.
  • Killer Roast Dinner: A living dinner plate that stands in one spot but spawns three Utensils when killed. First seen in Reallytall Tops.
  • Utensils (Mr. Knife, Mr. Fork, and Mr. Spoon): A trio of living eating utensils that spawn from a defeated Killer Roast Dinner and run in one direction until they hit something. They move extremely quickly, which can potentially make bombing them a tricky task. First seen in Reallytall Tops.
  • Hand Monster: A pair of hands held together by a tether. Bounces across the terrain in a horizontal line and can only be killed by your bombs when it's on the ground. First seen in Reallytall Tops, and can appear from destroyed crates on the S.S. Bladeshark.
  • Burger Boy: A giant living cheeseburger that walks slowly back and forth in a horizontal line. It takes at least two hits to destroy him; if your bomb power is not fully upgraded, it will take even more hits. However, knocking a rock into him will destroy him instantly. First seen in Reallytall Tops.
  • Nose Crab: A crab shaped like a nose, which moves erratically and likes to hide behind background objects. First seen in Reallytall Tops.
  • Aye-Aye Sailor: An anthropomorphic aye-aye that normally jogs back and forth in a horizontal line, but if you drop a bomb near him, he'll run towards it to try to kick it away. To defeat him, drop a bomb just far enough that he'll run towards it but won't have enough time to kick it before it explodes. If your bomb power is not sufficiently upgraded, it will take multiple hits to defeat him. If you're using Trigger Bombs, you can use this enemy's unique quirk against it, as they'll still run towards it and effectively blow themselves up. First seen in Bubblebomb Volcano.
  • Uniphant: A two-legged elephant riding a unicycle. Rolls back and forth in a wave pattern. It is a very rare enemy that is first seen in Bubblebomb Volcano and makes only a few appearances on the S.S. Bladeshark.
  • Annoying Injection Mold Man: A stick figure made of gelatin that stands (or rather, dances) in one spot, but is completely immune to your bombs. The only way to kill him is to use the explosions from your bombs to knock him into a lava pool (Bubblebomb Volcano) or water pool (S.S Bladeshark). Fitting for his "annoying" name, he has an obnoxious voice and a defiant attitude; he will taunt the player if an explosion does not knock him into a pit (e.g. "You're rubbish!") and is a sore loser when killed (e.g. "You cheater!"). Like the Uniphant, he is first seen in Bubblebomb Volcano and only appears in a few levels.

Bosses[]

Nekodrome[]

Nekodrome is the boss of Plainy Plains. He is a giant robotic lion who attacks by spitting bombs, swatting at you if you get in front of him, and summoning Pineapple Dudes. To damage Nekodrome, you have to either blow him up from behind, or use your bombs to knock Pineapple Dudes towards him, causing the explosion to hurt him. He takes five hits to defeat.

Submurtle[]

Submurtle is the boss of Shellsea Shore. He is huge cyborg turtle who attacks by shooting missiles from his shell to have them rain down from above. He can only be damaged by dropping a bomb on his shell while he's launching missiles. When damaged, he retaliates by sending a flying saucer after you and then launching a volley of bombs all around him. He takes five hits to defeat.

Mark the Big Red Spider (and his Mom)[]

Mark the Big Red Spider and his mom are the bosses of Reallytall Tops. Mark is, obviously, a big red spider, and his mom is a much larger spider whose body is covered with stony armor. The battle begins with Mark running around on his own. After hitting him three times with your bombs, he'll cry and call for his mom, who will then emerge from underground to protect her son. Mark's mom attacks by biting at you with her mandibles and by emitting loud screeches. To defeat the two spiders, you have to hit Mark five more times, but this can be tricky because Mark will try to hide underneath his mom, whose armor deflects your bombs. Once he is hit, however, you can simply hit him immediately when he becomes vulnerable again, before he retreats to his mom and becomes difficult to hit once more.

Gelgoop Sr.[]

Gelgoop Sr. is the boss of Bubblebomb Volcano. He is a gigantic gelatin man who attacks by breathing fire and doing a weird dance that sends chunks of gelatin flying everywhere. To damage Gelgoop, you have to drop a bomb in front of him when he's preparing to use his fire breath; this will cause Gelgoop to inhale the bomb and damage himself. After being damaged three times, Gelgoop Sr. will split apart into four Gelgoop Jrs. which each dance around the field in random directions. Each Gelgoop Jr. will then split into four Gelgoop IIIs when damaged; the Gelgoop IIIs dance back and forth in a small line.

Captain Slithe[]

Captain Slithe is the boss of the S.S. Bladeshark, and the final boss of the game overall. He is an enormous sea yeti who is the S.S. Bladeshark's captain. Slithe attacks by swatting at you, throwing anchors at you, and shooting bombs at you from his hand cannon. To damage him, you have to wait for him to throw an anchor at you, then dodge it so the anchor comes back and hits Slithe instead, causing him to lose his balance. While Slithe is struggling to regain his balance, you then have to drop a bomb behind him before he recovers in order to damage him. When Slithe is down to his last hit point, he will begin throwing the anchors with much greater accuracy; you must hit him five times to defeat him.

Errors[]

  • After completing the game, a credit sequence plays showing all the game's enemies and revealing their names; however, the Uniphant is strangely absent from this sequence.

Trivia[]

  • Super Sloth Bomber was the first game Megadev ever created, although they didn't release it until after releasing some of their other titles, including Knightfall and Bomboozle.
