Controls[]

  • Arrow Keys: Walk left or right (left/right keys only), Control the mace
  • X: Jump
  • Hold Z: Make the wizard heavy

Difficulty Levels[]

You can choose between four difficulty levels before starting the game.  The difficulty you choose affects how much health the witch loses when damaged as well as how often Zombies and Flying Monkeys appear in the game overall.

  • Sleepwalk (Easy)
  • Ordinary (Normal)
  • Mace Fu (Hard)
  • Hope You Like Toasters (Super Hard)

Gameplay[]

The game consists of eight levels - seven normal levels and one boss level where you fight the witch; the goal is to beat all eight levels and defeat the witch.  In each level, you have to get to the door on the other side of the level in order to climb up the tower.  The levels are jam-packed with enemies; you can destroy them using the magic mace which orbits around the wizard at all times.  The mace's movement is controlled by the four arrow keys; its controls are usually not very tight, but you can hold down the Z key to make the wizard heavy, which allows you to control the mace's movement much more accurately.  While heavy, however, the wizard's running speed is reduced and he can't jump very high, so this might make it harder to dodge enemies in some situations.

If the wizard is hit by an enemy or projectile, the level is lost and you get sent down a level.  If you lose on the first level, the game is lost and you have to start over.

Zones[]

  • Lower Dungeon (Levels 1 and 2): Contains short levels with relatively low amounts of enemies.  Zombies and Flying Monkeys rarely appear in these levels, if at all.
  • Golden Gallery (Levels 3, 4, and 5): Contains medium-length levels with higher amounts of enemies.  Zombies and Flying Monkeys appear more often than before.
  • Skull Corridor (Levels 6 and 7): Contains long levels with lots of enemies.  Zombies and Flying Monkeys appear frequently.
  • The Witch's Chamber (Level 8): The room where the Witch resides.  You battle her here.

Enemies[]

  • Roaming Toaster: Walks back and forth over a small area, only killing the wizard on contact.
  • Popping Toaster: Stands in one place and shoots pieces of toast in random directions.
  • Lamp: Hangs from the ceiling and occasionally shoots a lightning bolt downward.
  • Floating Hat: Floats across the screen, only killing the wizard on contact.
  • Flying Monkey: Occasionally flies across the screen in huge swarms.  Is invincible.
  • Zombie: Occasionally spawns in a big group; chases after the wizard but isn't very smart and sometimes has trouble following the wizard.
  • The Witch: Final boss of the game.  She's usually protected by a force field, but lowers it when she's about to attack, leaving her vulnerable to your mace.  She alternates between two different fire attacks - one where she creates some floating fireballs that roam around on the ceiling and then fly straight down, and one where she shoots several small fireballs right at the wizard.  She can also occasionally summon Flying Monkeys.  On Sleepwalk difficulty she loses 4 HP per hit from your mace; on Ordinary difficulty she loses 2 HP per hit; on Mace Fu and Hope You Like Toasters difficulty she only loses 1 HP per hit.  If you die during her battle, her HP won't reset fully but she will gain 1 HP back.  She'll restore an additional 1 HP for every time you die after that.

Trivia[]

  • Due to being more dangerous than the rest of the enemies in the game, Zombies and Flying Monkeys make a unique sound to indicate their presence just before appearing on the screen.
