Wordle is a free word game available on the web developed by Josh "powerlanguage" Wardle, an artist, product manager and engineer based in Brooklyn, New York.[1] The game was released in October 2021.

The game gained popularity in December 2021 after powerlanguage added a new feature that allowed players to share their daily results as emoji squares, especially on Twitter.
The game was sold to The New York Times for at least a million dollars.[2]
Gameplay[]
The player has to guess a 5 letter word in 6 tries, using the 26 different letters of the alphabet. After each guess, the color of the tiles will be modified depending on how close the user gets to guessing the word correctly. The meaning of the colors are:
- Green: The chosen letter is in the correct spot.
- Yellow: The chosen letter exists in the word but is in an incorrect spot.
- Gray: The chosen letter does not exist in any spot.
A new puzzle will be available every day.
